    They'd fail.  They can work for concessions with the next regime, but they can't co-opt this the way they want to.

      The best option for those parts of the army leadership which want to retain great power is to go along with the revolution and try to get themselves in good positions with the next regime.  If they merely want wealth, they could probably retire comfortably with everyone's blessing.  If they want power, they will have to settle for only a little power -- the people are demanding responsible government.

        stakes in the government run defense industry for quite a while, or at least get a generous buy-out offer.

        It would be a tiny price to pay for a peaceful transition.

        We need to find the middle ground between Heliocentric and Geocentric extremists.
