Don't worry.  We're all Democrats.  We're all voting for him '12.  That said, PLEASE let us call him out on his short-sighted and cowardly stand on Egypt!

Obama is wrong.  We should be 100% on the side of the people and completely against the autocrats. There is only ONE proper opinion: Democracy Now.  Mubarak out now. Sulieman out now. Civil authority over the military now.

The same coalition that met with Sulieman can choose a transitional leadership amongst themselves and govern the country until free and fair elections are set up. The Egyptians have plenty of leaders, plenty of people with serious admin experience like Amr Moussa or Baradei who can govern a short-term transition until elections in the next few months.  They don't need these two lying autocrats running their country.

being too critical, and now I'm "apologizing for Obama".

I'm doing neither: I'm putting my constructive criticism out there.

I appreciate you stopping by and commenting :-)

IMO, there's nothing "clear" about Obama's statement.  Intellectually, I understand why he's being so "political" about it but as a human being, it pains me to see him on the wrong side.  This is history in the making and he speaks for the US.  He needs to be on the right side of history.

...and one of the harder statements I've heard from an American Prez (short of "we're dropping the bombs oops! no we aren't")

I understand you feel Obama is somehow on the side that wants to see the regime stay in power. But can you explain what you would like to see done as an alternative? The statement calls to an end to the indefinite state of emergency, which turned the country into a military dictatorship, or a Praetoriate as a commentator said today. This is as clear a rebuke of Mubarak as can be stated. Now what else would you have done that the US is in the position to do?

Obama is wrong.  We should be 100% on the side of the people and completely against the autocrats.

And who exactly are the people?

    •  Exactly right! (0+ / 0-)

Even the current statement is meaningless, as was Obama's no infamous "democracy speech" in Cairo two years ago.

Actions not words and Obama has shown no action to support his previous "democracy now" speech and has shown no actions to support his repeated call for "democracy now" all the while supporting the military dictatorship with guns and money.

This speech, like his previous, will be shown as empty rhetoric.
