  •  AARP & gay ban (4.00)
I mentioned AARP's opposition to the ban when I discussed the problems in relation to battered women and domestic violence laws in this diary

Basically,as you say, they were concerned since this very restrictive ban would cause problems with inheritance, property rights etc of single couples.

About 65% of Ohioians voted for the ban, and a lot of them didn't realize what all was included in the package.  A lot of folks will be in for some surprises.

Yup, now laws against domestic violence against women are going to be..well nullified.  Since there are laws against beating your wife then you can't now have a law extending the same benefit to non married couples.

If all those same-sex couples had been allowed to marry, how many more spousal abuse cases would have been clogging up the judicial system?  And nulifying laws against domestic abuse committed against an unmarried partner will be a boon to university atheletic departments, because far fewer of their star players will be brought up on charges for smacking around a girlfriend.</snark>

Exactly!  This combined with tort reform will keep the courts uncluttered for the important business suits.  Who needs law for the hoi polloi?  Let them kill each other.

no prisons?  Have we no work houses?

Well... I guess one out of two ain't bad.

Big Media is hated by the GOP because they sometimes tell the truth. We should hate Big Media for the other 97 percent of the time when they don't.
