    what may be to Obama's credit (I don't think we can really even know at this point) is if he didn't try to support Mubarak or the regime (Suleiman, &c.) behind the scenes. His words on the revolution (belated though they were), especially his second speech where he said that the needed changes hadn't happened yet, were a lot more important than the Cairo speech. If Egyptians hadn't revolted, the Cairo speech would have gone down in history asan embarrassment to America and Obama both.

    I honestly don't think the speech was important at all. It stopped mattering when months went by and there was no sign that US policy was actually changing even a little bit.
