Spain, the Netherlands, Prussia, Denmark, Russia, and the city-state of Napoli, Italia.

They went to war with the United States twice for piracy and enslavement of the Christians, which led to the Barbary Wars I and II.  And Algeria's war of independence against imperialist France from 1954 to 1962 was especially protracted, entrenched, bloody, and memorable, even using African wars of European liberation as a comparison standard.
