of ending the state of emergency.

some in the power structure have interests in the status quo, but also because it seems that one of the side-effects of lifting the State of Emergency is going to be a considerable downsizing of the police force, which will only compound the unemployment problem.

Egyptians are saying about that but can't find anything either.

    •  The army will end that or they won't... (0+ / 0-)

and if they wait too long, they'll have a few million people in the street again (which they may not care that much about), and have the economy shut down once more (which they probably care about a whole lot).

This is going to be a slightly weird negotiation - in some sense, the opposition has a nuclear bomb:  they can call people out, perhaps once, perhaps twice, but probably not more than that.  And the military know that (i) the opposition can do immense damage to them, but (ii) only a few times.

I don't know how this will end up - I would be a bit surprised to have "democracy" as we know it happen next; if we're lucky there will be a somewhat more representative government and a more functional economy that will allow most Egyptians at least to live in a reasonable degree of peace and harmony, while making an actual living.
