    In general, SCOTUS justices are allowed (with appropriate disclosure) to do speaking events, and they do so regularly.  What makes this different (but not necessarily illegal, he's stretching but not breaking the rules) is: (a) most appearances of this nature are in front of law schools or lawyer professional groups, (b) the group typically does not have much of a stake in SCOTUS rulings, and (c) they are usually a bit less lavish, e.g. it's a night at some university, not four days at a high end resort in Palm Springs.

    And there is a pretty clear conflict of interest.  In and of itself, it's not enough, and just suggests that he's a slimebag.  But given everything else, a pattern is building up.  His wife's activities are pretty clearly illegal conflict of interest (not to mention stalking and harassment), for example.
