  •  I saw this on (25+ / 0-)

TPM this morning on my FB feed. The update is that Obama has only added 20K federal jobs and the per capita size of government (fed workers to US population) is as low as it was in 1962.

    Republicans are hideous.

There's a reason Democrats won massively the last two cycles, and it wasn't because people were desperate for "bipartisanship". --kos

    •  Feds fire workers & Hire them back as contractors (5+ / 0-)

they have been doing that since 1993's Al Gore led restructuring govornment.  It's a big bunch of bull.  They never fire employees, even the ones that don't do anything, they just keep paying them until they retire.  But it's really uneven. Some agencies like the military departments have added a lot of civilian employees becaues their budgets have increased so much the last 9 years, and the other areas have huge budget cuts to offset these crazy spending spree's on the military.

don't over-generalize.  Bush riffed huge numbers of GS workers and turned everything he could over to contractors.  Since Obama, those contractor jobs have either been converted to Federal positions or eliminated.  This is the way it's been in the Dept of the Army, anyway.  And I have no doubt when the next Repug is elected, it'll bounce back the opposite direction.  This is the way it's been since at least Reagan.

Public employees are not overpaid, nor are they just sitting around collecting their pay.  People in my Dept, including me, regularly give extra hours with no expectation of return... because the work for our military men and women is important and time sensitive.

Further... I lost 1/3 of my salary when my position was converted from Contractor to GS.  I'm now making the same salary I was earning a decade ago.  And while we may have choice in med. insurance, none of them are cheap.

And lest one think I'm an oddball... my experience is more the rule than the exception, at least within the  DOD.  Lately, tho, it's hard not to be demoralized by all the bashing we get... not to mention pay freezes, etc.

        •  I haven't had a pay raise in 4 1/2 years (0+ / 0-)

but not 'official' pay freeze, it's just that my state could not care less if I live or die since I live in a red state that hates government employees.

    •  Not to mention, (3+ / 0-)

jobs may have been created, but because of budget constraints, they haven't been filled.  The SEC and CFTC can't fill positions created by Dodd-Frank because they are operating under continuing resolutions, and the GOP wants to keep it that way.

and other BananaRepublicANS simply make shit up, like faux news, and assume their fans will buy it. and they do. because it sounds good and it's free. and if it's free and sounds good, their loyal fans buy it up. alternate reality.

fox news mistook a camera lens flare for the apocalypse (see yesterdays diary). of course GOP leadership has no qualms just making shit up for fox news viewers.

to the Washington Post article that TPM  used to source the 20,000 jobs figure

It would appear that Boehner (or his staff) have a problem with basic math.
