    political problem here:

Both the Dakotas, IIRC, have severe population drains, no? This is yet another mechanism to drive people away, and to make sure no one even remotely liberal would ever live there.

So, the only people left in the state ARE the really rabid nutjobs.

I'm like you though, don't expect me to move there and fix the problem.

I'm starting to see this now as SD's version of that great Wall that AZ wanted to build against Mexican & Central American migrants. Only in SD's case its a wall against liberals, or moderates, or women.

There's a premise for a science fiction novel: every woman in the state of SD walks out dragging her suitcase behind.  How does the state function without women?

What do progressive kids from the Mountain, Midwest and Southern states do the minute they turn 18?

Either college  or move to LA or NYC! Kids know early on if they're "different" (whether that be gay, nerdy, intellectual, etc) and just don't fit in in a city/state dominated by regressive right-wing types.

So we have this thing I call "Left Wing Flight" that sees liberals running for the coasts, which leaves progressive influences in the middle of the country sorely lacking.
(To say nothing of weakend electoral vote impact)

But what's the alternative? Like you said, you certainly can't argue that more liberals need to stay in Wyoming or Utah. I mean, shit!
