    I used to go see these guys, a local band the Scientific Americans, or SciAms for short, that used to incorporate some interesting techno elements back in those days.  Late 70s early 80s.  Back when a tape loop involved an actual loop of tape.  In a lot of ways their sound guy was as much a part of the band and the show as any of the musicians.  I was at the first show they played with just a (cheesy early) beat-box for a drummer, and it seemed  hard to know what to make of it at the time, but that became their defining sound.

    BTW, I happened to quite by accident discover that one of these guys is among other things these days an active kossack.    (For obvious confidentiality reasons I'll leave it at that, but given the topic of this diary I thought the connection too cool not to note.)
