  •  Kind of you to say. (13+ / 0-)

I come from strictly working class stock.  Mom's birthday, 100th, was yesterday. She passed a few years ago. She worked in my father's short order restaurant, a road side joint in the 40's, until they divorced when I was two. After that she was a hair dresser, as they said in those days, but had her own shop built into our house, after she married a guy who worked on an assembly line.  You might say I grew up over the store.

The younger of two of two brothers and the 2nd and 3rd in our branch of our family, my older brother and I got our respective Ph.D. and J.D.

But when I was working my way through all of that, I was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local No. 1 and I still have my union card today. My spouse of 40 years is a member of the National Treasury Employees Union and proud of it.

Although I am currently employed by management in HR matters, my understanding of my roots informs every thing I do.
