  •  It's about "barefoot and pregnant." (6+ / 0-)

The birth control pill was the most liberating thing to happen to women in the history of humankind.

Before that, women were literally tied to the role of baby-machine.  Because in most cultures they had no right to refuse sex with their husbands (owners) their state of health and their available free time depended on their state of fertility.

A woman with two or three children and no social support system can't hold down a job and is almost totally dependent on a man for survival. And that means control.

The birth control pill changed that. Women could now decide when or even if they had children. They did not need the support of a man to survive.

This was a huge threat to male-dominated society. It still is.

If the right-wingers really wanted to stop abortions, they'd be proposing laws to provide free condoms and birth control pills to any American who wants them.  No fertilized egg, no abortion.

This is about power, money and control. No domination of one race over another, or of one country over another, is as widespread, long-lived or as emotionally charged as the domination of men over women.

Keep 'em barefoot and pregnant. Poor and dependent. No matter how big a loser I am, I'm still better than a woman.

The most widespread form of bigotry known.

Freedom has two enemies: Those who want to control everyone around them...and those who feel no need to control themselves.
