  •  Swimming and weight strengthening (8+ / 0-)

I would hardly call it weight-lifting.  The principal purposes of the weight-training are (1) to strengthen the muscles in my right shoulder so as to fight the arthritis that's developing there, and (2) to increase muscle mass, since that decreases as we age.  I'm 51 now, and this is somewhat of a concern for me.

In swimming, I do about 2500 yards per session, and I try to alternate between the swimming and the weight training.  The swimming is good for both muscle building and aerobics.  If I can do exercise 4 or 5 times a week, I'm reasonably satisfied.

Oh, yeah, and I also go contradancing when I can.  That's really good aerobic exercise, and it's very social.
