  •  Any Kossacks doing exercise groups? (1+ / 0-)

I'm so glad I came across this diary today.  I am 44 and probably around 60-70 lbs overweight.  I hate how I look and always feel uncomfortable.  There was a presentation at my workplace several months ago from a surgical weight loss center at a nearby hospital talking about the lap band.  Now, I am very leery of surgical solutions and don't want to go that route.  But I asked the doctor presenting whether their center had other non-surgical options and I plan to talk to a nutritionist there soon.  I would like concrete recommendations for diet - not the usual "just eat less carbs" etc., but "eat X amount of food Y and time Z".  Look, I'm German, I'm very good at following orders!

I also know I am far too sedentary and keep telling myself to get with the exercise program.  I also want to talk to them about what and how much exercises to do: I am lucky in that my apartment complex is fairly new and his a pretty decent exercise room, and there is also a small gym facility with treadmills, bike and weight machines at my work (I just keep finding excuses not  to use them).

As several folks have observed, exercise is easier and better if you do it with friends.  As a member of Drinking Liberally, I just wondered if there is an Exercising Liberally?  Or something like it?  Any organized groups of Kossacks in various areas who meet to work out?

    •  You might want to think about (0+ / 0-)

some sessions with a personal trainer - maybe 6 or so to learn about the various machines in your exercise room and the gym at work.

The trainer can give you several routines to follow on your own or with friends.  Some trainers also will do group sessions so you and a friend can learn what to do.

I've done some group exercise and it is nice to get to know the people in your groups.  My schedule is too erratic to depend on group exercise, but they are lots of fun!

Good luck finding some groups in your area.  Keep checking this space - there might be a group exercise diary for you.
