    I was a physics undergrad back in the 80s.  Many of my fellow students were planning on working on the SSC that was being built down in Texas at that time.  When that project was cancelled, many of them had to leave the field as the employment prospects for physics grads were suddenly reduced.

      as my family land is/was a few miles outside the proposed SSC loop.  I grew up there and the cancellation is still a sore spot in my memory.  As I recall some of the funding for the SSC was redirected to the ISS program.  Our son who was in 2nd grade when the SSC was cancelled is now working on the ISS program.

      What a strange circle.

      Sometimes it's better to individually address a problem rather than just criticize our politicians for failing to do so.
