    I would just add, that Native peoples were also enslaved and in California, for example, their enslavement endured beyond the declaration that it was a Free State.

      and theft of their land, heritage and resources is a whole other set of maps and overlays.

      I should note that the 1900 study of prison labor also described how prison labor was used for the benefit of the State and not lent/sold to private business. This went on in every state and would require another map.
