    in several ways

First, Guggenheim got roundly criticized by other documentary film makers for faking a scene - he has a mother touring a school as if her son might go there if he wins the lottery, only by then she already knew he had not made it.

Second, I go through a great deal of its dishonesty and distortion in the review I posted here in October  (Warning, the thread has over 900 comments):  This teacher reacts to seeing "Waiting for Superman"

Third, the nominations for best documentary come from the members of the Academy who are themselves involved with making documentaries.  Waiting for Superman did not get nominated.  That should speak volumes about what they thought of it.

I know someone who teaches in one of the schools featured in the film and says the presentation of the school is not accurate

The film was promoted by a conglomerate of groups not exactly friendly to public schools, some with a clear agenda against public schools.  There was a lot of money and corporate support involved in its roll-out.

I stand on what I wrote in that review.
