  •  Beware hyperpartisanship. (7+ / 0-)

There are still a few decent folks in that GOP that are simply terrified of the Teahadists. Senator Schultz has cast pro-union votes in the past, and was the one trying to build a compromise. He has absolutely nothing to gain in this. Walker's "tough guy" stance isn't helped by this.

We need a reasonable opposition for democracy to work. If we give in to the same divisive rhetoric of the Tea Party we're not actually fighting for anything worth saving.

We need allies, not vanquished enemies.

      It's distrust.

      Well-earned distrust.

They talked about planting agitators in the crowd, they snuck a vote through the House before any of the Dems even knew what was're crazy if you don't think Walker has at least considered having a few Repubs say "i'll vote against it" as a ruse to get the Dems back then slam the bill through.

Or your employment? Or the employment of thousands? The stakes are too high here for trust alone.

There is absolutely no scenario wherein the GOP could pull something like that and be left with a functioning government. None. The Democrats would have no reason whatsoever to not block and undermine every piece of legislation that would come out for the next two years. The government would grind to a halt. The only way they'd come back is if three republicans publicly agreed to vote against the bill. Any republican who says in public they'll vote against it will be toast with the teabaggers. Any republican who says they were lying would be toast with the Jesus-lovin' social conservatives and every democrat or union member everywhere, and they'd probably add in quite a few government-mistrusting conservatives to their enemies list.

I'm getting pretty familiar with the process up here, having been in the capitol most every day and phone banking for my union. Schultz would gain nothing through this tinfoil-hat ruse, and if you'd think it through and look beyond the surface, you'd see that too. I'm sure you would.
