When will people realize how fundamental reading is to building a solid educational foundation for our children, and how indispensible public libraries are?

public education is not exactly a priority these days.  The stated goal after all is to drown public fixtures such as schools,  libraries, and other public abominations in the bathtub.

Without libraries, the future appears bleak indeed.

This is what the GOP has planned for America.

here in L.A. entirely at the feet of the Republicans. 80% of the school district's funding comes from the state and the legislature in California has been solidly blue for decades. Yes, the Republicans have been able to hold up the state budgeting process for years due to a 2/3 threshold to pass the budget, but the Dems have been complicit too in going along w/ budget gimmics and band-aid fixes that kept kicking the problems down the road. The music has stopped and we're now paying the piper.

As bad as it is now, it looks like it may get worse. My greatest fear is the impact of all this will be multiplied in the future and felt for decades. Especially when California is the world's 8th largest economy, this can and will likely have a devastating effect on the entire country.
