  •  Here's what's cut via the CR (9+ / 0-)

    From WaPo:

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/...

This CR terminates funding for eight programs. These terminations include:

Election Assistance Grants = -$75 million
Broadband Direct Loan Subsidy (U.S. Department of Agriculture) = -$29 million.
Smithsonian Institution Legacy Fund = -$30 million.
LEAP program (U.S Department of Education) = -$64 million
Even Start (U.S. Department of Education) = -$66 million.
Smaller Learning Communities (U.S. Department of Education) = -$88 million
Highways - Additional General Fund spending (Federal Highways Administration) = -$650 million

TOTAL Terminations Savings = $1.24 billion [...] TOTAL Earmark Savings = $2.7 billion TOTAL CR Spending Cuts = $4.01 billion

    And here's the CR itself:
    https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/70840-march-18-cr-xml.html

And, please, lets look closely at these and avoid the knee jerk, "We can't cut anything from Agency X!!!" without looking at the context of the program, the POTUS' recommendation and other programs that can pick up the slack from those that are cut.

    •  Thank you for the info (9+ / 0-)

I guess the price we must pay to offset tax cuts for the rich is a $200 million cut to the Dept of Education. Unfuckingreal.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

And, fwiw, re: Your sig. If calling torture, political corruption, corporate welfare and union busting evil makes me a bad person, so be it. It is still evil.

      •  you did exactly what I hoped you would not (4+ / 0-)

You characterized the cut to DoEd, complete with outrage, without knowing anything about the context, programs or other sources of funding to accomplish the same ends.

Yes, this kind of behavior is also part of the problem with political discourse in this country. Do you not see it as part of your responsibility as a citizen to be as informed as possible before freaking out?

without offering a tangbile and viable solution to MOT is not discourse.

You sound like a parent scolding a child rather than an adult offering advise and building trust towards a common goal.

          •  what "charge"? Please clarify. (2+ / 0-)

As someone who pores over these things for a living, it is not possible  that MoT pored over detail info on these programs between the time he said he had not read the CR and the time he condemned cuts to the DoEd.

You find me unreasonable and or accusatory for pointing out the obvious?

    •  This is actually an OK set of cuts, but of course (0+ / 0-)

I'm waiting to see what happens next month.

Read pp. 1-7 of Krugman's _The Great Unraveling_ (available from Google Books). NOW.
