    you took burned out incandescent bulbs back to the store.  I have no idea why, or if you got money for them (I suppose the screw-in base was re-usable).

    And I don't qualify for Social Security yet (8 more months).

      clearly freakin' stupid that we weren't doing it for all these years - particularly when they passed the mandate for the switch.

      They'd give you new ones in trade. Can't remember when that was phased out.  Mid 60s I think.

        I can recall my mother making a side trip to the power company office in town to pay the bill in person because she could get free or darn-near-free light bulbs. And this would have been into the early '70s.
