  •  You raise the salient question: (5+ / 0-)
How can this possibly be dealt with?

I too have studied on this to the point of distraction.

I have not tested it out yet, so consider it in the "trials" phase, but I've got a three-step approach that might work.

    1) When they start their crazy talk, respond in complete gibberish.

Take care to remain calm and use body language otherwise associated with normal conversation, hand gestures, thoughtful nods, fingertip steeples, etc.

If the con fails to realize that you just said "mumph otta goop steh, steh, steh booooofany hoodo" he obviously isn't listening to a word you're saying. Reason is futile. Move to step two.

    2) Recommend that the con get a transorbital lobotomy.

If the con fails to pursue your recommendation, he is either convinced his views are rational or afraid of having an ice pick rammed into his eye socket, or both. Thus you should consider the condition terminal and try the more aggressive approach in step three.

    3) Recommend the con contact Dr. Jack Kevorkian for treatment.

If the con rejects this recommendation as well, you are dealing with one tough, committed con.

Now here's the tough part. Walk away from the con. Just say "screw you" and go be the very best jbeach you can possibly be and do everything you can to love folks and care for them and make the part of the world you control be the best you can make it.

There comes a time when we have to accept that it's their day. I have every confidence that they'll fuck it up but, hopefully, not beyond repair. Our day will come again.

    •  Ah, that's all funny (0+ / 0-)

But for me it mirrors too often things the conservatives say about liberals.

And what's frustrating to me is that, again, they really are provably far further out of touch with reality.

      But so it is.
