  •  Perhaps a change in terms is insturctive? (9+ / 0-)

Instead of the GOP "Southern Strategy" it should be the "Southernization Strategy" because, though pretty much centered in the South, the TP/gop core extends far beyond there geographically. It is somewhat interesting to look at the cultural similarities between geographic "Southern" and those hard core TP/gop supporters outside the actual South.

You will also find that phenomenon in the fundamentalist, religious right. Some has to do with rural, small town culture but much seems to have to do with the strange appearance of Confederate battle flags in places far outside the old Confederacy.

At one time there was some excuse for "heritage" and I knew people of good will and character, even some sympathetic to the civil rights movement that had it in that sense. Somewhere, probably entangled with the success of the civil rights movement, it became pretty damn dirty.

Some of that dirt dragged overseas. I saw it in one setting that triggered a thought. I was in a place where Nazi symbolism was illegal. The location of the Confederate symbol was in a setting I would definitely connect with the twisted cross banners. Like I said, dragged in the dirt.

        •  Symbols of hate. (0+ / 0-)

Sometimes I can't believe we allow the freedom of expression of hate.

But, at the end of the day, I'd rather allow them to express themselves in the open so we can teach our children what no to be. No secrets.

Hateful bastards. Hateful, murderous bastards the lot of them.
