    I am not an expert, but after looking at the approval numbers across the country, I don't see who can actually beat Obama in 2012.

    Unless the economy tanks between now and next November, it seems like Obama is going to win a second term quite easily.

    Who do the Republicans have that can beat him?

      It's telling that Republicans who are being talked up as potential threats (even if they aren't actually that), people like Thune, Christie and Jeb Bush, are taking a pass on this race. They already know that in liklihood, Obama will win reelection and they figure a wide-open 2016 is much more enticing.

      The GOP's big search next year, I feel, will be to find a Bob Dole-type candidate who can lose respectively and allow the GOP to hold their own in the Congressional races. That could prove difficult, because half of those listed candidates not only would lose, they'd likely lose in a Goldwater-style slaughter that'd probably lose the GOP the House in the process.
