  •  We homeschool now, but when (14+ / 0-)

our kids were in school, we worked very hard to make them understand that the testing was ALL ABOUT THE ADULTS and nothing to do with the kids.  We told them that they should just do their best, and that the tests were FOR THE ADULTS to figure out if they were doing a good job TEACHING (not a reflection of a child's learning).  They experienced a lot of pressure at school, but we were able to counterbalance it quite a bit with our attitude that it didn't matter in the least to us, but we did expect them to take it, because it was important that the school gather good info.

Sigh, and now we find it didn't matter.

Oh, well, they are much happier and learning much more at home.

My 14 year old asked me tonight whether I thought the governments of Northern Africa would be more or less stable after the revolutions.  We get to have really great conversations like that all the time!

Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government. ~Thomas Jefferson
