  •  Crescent City newspaper offline (6+ / 0-)

The local newspaper in Crescent City went offline at about the same time the tsunami would have hit.  I don't know if this is from lots of people trying to use it, or from some sort of damage (or intentional electrical cut-off) in Crescent City.

I don't expect any casualties, since there was a lot of warning.

Damage in Crescent City has been major, in the port, where they say the entire harbor has been destroyed, and a boat with four people lost one, rescued two, and are still searching for the fourth. Apparently, the town is okay, but the warning has not been lifted yet, and it's past noon here now. I'm in Eureka, south of Crescent City, and we have fared pretty well, although people in the low-lying areas, including my granddaughter near the marsh in Arcata, were all evacuated. Extensive coverage being offered by KRON 4 tv in SF. Santa Cruz Harbor has major damage and they are considering declaring a disaster there. Stupid Repubs would cut funding for tsunami alerts, but I was very happy to be awakened by the automatic phone alert at 5:30 this morning. It got my granddaughter out of bed a little early, but she is also happy to be safe and not sorry. My heart goes out to Japan.

I will fight the renewed efforts to put nuclear power plants along our coast. We just have too many risks with our shifting tectonic plates.
