    The privatization of America's prisons.

The failed War on Drugs really got underway in the early 1970s, corresponding with a boom in the numbers of inmates in the US correctional system. In 1984, INS contracted with a private company to host inmates, the boom took off, and hasn't stopped. Most of these inmates are young men of color.

As of 2007 the incarceration rate for black males was 4,618 per 100,000. Hispanic males were incarcerated at a rate of 1,747 per 100,000. In 2007 the estimated incarceration rate of white males was 773 per 100,000. Black men are 6 times more likely to be in prison than white men. Latino/Hispanic men are twice as likely.

This President knows what side his bread is buttered on. He's helping put more young men of color in prison for non-violent offenses to bolster the private prison industry.

When are you going to understand that being normal is not necessarily a virtue? It rather denotes a lack of courage. - Practical Magic

but for the slam against our prez

he hasn't (yet) done what i want on a number of issues, and they're all important

let's not forget what he's had to operate under, only idiots don't know

and i refuse to believe bho wants to continue to see young black men in prison for nonviolent offenses

so let's leave him and the feds out of this; we get the states to legalize, after the first few, more are set to get on board, et voila!
