  •  I have been homeless. (13+ / 0-)

I was in my twenties. My roommate admitted that he hadn't been paying rent; we had to be out by Monday. This was on a Saturday. I was forced to leave everything behind. I had no car. I had a minimum wage job at a comic book store. I stayed at a fleabag motel until the money ran out. I slept in my girlfriend's car, or sometimes in a local park under borrowed blankets. My appearance began to suffer; eventually he fired me for it. I explained my situation, but he didn't give a shit about me, only about his store's image. Typical Republican.

At my most desperate, my girlfriend's parents let me shower at their house--but my girlfriend insisted that they not know we were dating. I had become an embarrassment to everyone, even myself.

With access to a shower and my girlfriend's car, I found a job at a video store and began the bootstrapping process. We split for a while, but eventually I married that girlfriend. I found better jobs, and helped realize her dream of becoming a professional artist. Today we're doing okay...but I still live in fear of becoming suddenly homeless again.

There are two types of Republicans: millionaires and suckers.

      .

And as you point out, it is a downward cycle that only someone else can help you break.

Phil, I am glad your lady beeived in you, stayed with you, and you are happy together now.

Let's break our dependence on foreign goods and our multinational masters. Shop American. May Peace Prevail
