    and he taught me's still the first thing I do anyplace I go. We had regular fire drills at our house where dad would go out the window then mom would lower us out one by one and he'd catch us. Finally she'd go out. I know the neighbors probably thought we were nuts. Good thing my parents live in a one story house today.

      Count how many rows the nearest exits are from you (going forward and back). One exit may be blocked. The aircraft may be black, filled with smoke (or gasp! Water). You may not be able to see. But you can count your way, row by row, to the exit.

      Doesn't matter how many times you've flown on that airline. I know you're a frequent flyer and you know that aircraft  like the back of your hand. But you may be on a different version of a 737, for example, or they may have re- configured it. And even if not, people who visualize a stressful event beforehand (even if they don't have an opportunity to practice it) tend to perform much better when actually in those circumstances.
