    of the tea party who are libertarians rather than racist nuts.  Unfortunately, I don't think they make their presence known very well or often.
    Even though I'm not a libertarian by any means (I strongly believe in government helping people), I think it is a rational view and that progressives and real libertarians (as opposed to Rand Paul!) have some common interests, including the government staying out of the personal "moral" lives of consenting adults.  
    If we could reach out to those people, maybe we could find times when we agree.  Maybe libertarians would have no interest in supporting public employee unions, but they might be willing to support unions in the private sector.
    When I worked at a very liberal advocacy organization, we got Henry Hyde to vote against a bill that would have harmed pregnant women.  On that issue, we could agree (but that was about it!).

    If, in our efforts to win, we become as dishonest as our opponents on the right, we don't deserve to triumph.
