rather than to fight for principles may well end up putting his legacy in the company of President James Buchanan.

Buchanan was a one-termer, and there is no Lincoln on the horizon. The alternatives that I can see for 2012 are far worse, and for that reason, I expect to support Obama's re-election.

I didn't care much for Clinton either, but supporting him in 1996 was a no-brainer.

should or should not vote for in my commentary about how this Presidency is shaping up.

I am just saying that there is an historical precedence for what happens when extreme elements coalesce to form a threat to our government and the leadership opts to try to mediate the situation rather than taking firm stances on issues that are critical to the government's survival - and by extension the nation's survival.

It is confusing for the electorate at best and at worst it allows the dissenting faction more opportunity to grow and fester.

Would a Republican candidate bring relief to this situation?  Hell no.  But is this Administration managing the situation well - well enough to even preserve themselves?  I think that the answer to part a of that question is no and the part b answer is that it looks more and more dicey as time goes on.  I think that the 2010 elections are a harbinger of things to come if the Administration and Democratic Party don't start to really stand strong.  Americans like strength.  When they perceive it to be absent, they move on.
