  •  The media gave Walker as well as (4+ / 0-)

Ron Johnson, Feingold's opponent, a pass on everything!  It was disgusting beyond words.  And the "shadow money" behind Walker and Johnson was staggering.  In addition, both the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinel and the Wisconsin State Journal (republican mouthpieces) endorsed these guys despite their refusal to get specific.  There are a LOT of people who just don't know how money has influenced the media and so they take whatever they read or hear as truth.  GACK!  It's enough to make you bang your head on the wall.  Additionally, the ads the "shadow money" ran NEVER touched on what the goals were for Walker or Johnson but they lied and smeared Tom Barrett (who ran against Walker) and Feingold in those tv and radio ads that ran 24/7 for MONTHS.  There was no way Feingold and Barrett could fight back hard enough against that.  I've also just recently learned (via Newsie 2800, a DK member) that the DNC had other people they felt needed more help so they directed the money towards other people than Barrett and Feingold.  I can't tell you how much that pains me or how horrible many of us STILL feel over Feingold's and Barrett's losses.  This should NOT have happened.  But, just remember that 47% of those who voted, voted FOR  Barrett while 52% voted for Walker.  So, a lot of us DID show up to vote and a lot of us DID vote straight Dem tickets.  I know Mr. 3g and I both did.

Objecting to our governor’s policies does not make a citizen of Wisconsin a criminal. Not yet, anyway. ~ nelangst

    •  Part of the reason I support candidates rather (0+ / 0-)

than national organizations is what you just wrote - they took money and used it where they judged it to be more needed.  After seeing them support people I don't agree with, I've sworn off donating to the umbrella groups (DNC, DCCC, DSCC) and I donate directly to the candidates, like I did in throwing Russ some cash.

It sucks to be in a district given up as having no hope - I lived in a district with Tom Tancredo as my rep for a number of years until he retired, so I know my district never gets any attention from the power brokers on the Democratic side.

Well, I'm going to help with the recall efforts (the state Democrats in Wisconsin will be an umbrella group I'll also contribute to, as I don't know the ground game there), and I wish you folks luck and DVRs so you can skip the commercials that are coming your way even now on this recall issue.

I spent a summer in LaCrosse, so I have some affinity for Wisconsin.  I hope you get reasonable people back in office.
