      It's not about him - it's about him as a way to intimidate and quash the formation of virtual insurgencies.

      It's the only reason people know a thing about what is happening to him: It's useful to let people know the particulars.

      That is why - against all first-order common sense - torture sessions are recorded as often as they are.

      Makes no sense to document war crimes, right?

      Ah, but it does - the documentation is the desired output.
