He keeps the Snow Dog at home.

I like Rush but sort of drifted away from them during the 80's synth period.

    I saw them 3 times I think 77 to 79?

Once with Sammy Hagar I think.

    Once with Pat Travers

The last time Blackfoot warmed up.

    •  No, I didn't know that! (0+ / 0-)

I'll have to keep an eye out for him.

Late 70s? I wish I could have seen them then. You should get back on board. There were NO keys on Vapor Trails and Snakes & Arrows at all ;)

A pal gave me the documentary on them.

I didn't realize they had gone back to playing rock.

I think the last time I saw them they were touring Farewell To Kings.

True, not much in the way of keys on Snakes & Arrows, but there's a few.  You'll hear the Mellotron on "Faithless".  But yes--a lot of what would've been keys are now these really atmospheric guitar tracks from Alex.

Oh, and apparently there's lots of Moog Taurus (the foot-pedal synth responsible for all those low, long bass notes, like on "Xanadu", and single-note high drones, like on "Cinderella Man") way back in the mix as well.  Nick Raskulinecz, the Rush fan who produced Snakes & Arrows, was so insistent on it that Geddy actually tracked down the person to whom he'd sold it years before to get it back.  It's hard to hear, but apparently it's there on a number of songs.  TBH, I like the keys/guitar/drums setup occasionally--it's cool that they made a whole album with no keys, but I'm glad they haven't forsaken them for good.

But more importantly, thanks for the diary!  :-)

The '60s were simply an attempt to get the 21st Century started early....Well, what are we waiting for? There's no deadline on a dream!

It was a joy to write.

And yes, Taurus Pedals! I hadn't realized that there were any keys on S&S so they must be very subtle and quiet. I love the Pedals on the older stuff and they REALLY shine on Hold Your Fire.... man! I actually own a set. Geddy should have called me ;D

Same here.   I had problems with their synth period as well.  Their latest two or three albums are much closer to their roots.
