  •  I am a little shocked actually; (17+ / 0-)

He actually STATED that he was doing this for the purpose of having the maximum "impact" - - generally hearings are set out to find facts, and the impact comes from the facts that are found.

I am shocked that he admitted he was staging this from the beginning, not that he is doing it, but that he admitted as much beforehand.

cover this truthfully. I'll need it all if that happens.

    •  Well State Sen Fitzgerald up in WI (7+ / 0-)

admitted that the union busting was not about the budget, but about the 2012 elections.

I think we will see this more often.  The ethics of public life used to dictate at least a fig leaf of objectivity and at least the illusion that differences were differences of opinion and policy rather than politics.

But that tradition is fading.  I think the vehemence of the Tea Party has something to do with it, as well as the gradual sense of entitlement on the right, starting with Gingrich's revolution in the mid 90's.  Starting in abouot 1994 there was a shift and the dominant theme since then is that if they don't win - and win on everything - then something has to be wrong.  The other side stopped being a loyal opposition during the Clinton years, and it's all been about power, naked power, ever since.

Of course King is holding these hearings for political purposes rather than objective fact-finding about Islam and terrorism in America.  The difference between the Clinton impeachments in the 1990s and hearings like this now is that they don't even bother to conceal their motives any longer.  Ditto for the union busting in WI.  And the sad thing is that this is the new terrain of politics, this is the new normal.  Nobody bats an eye except for us here - generally the media won't, and the general public certainly won't.

when he finds that all this crap they're doing to influence the 2012 elections - will influence them exactly the OPPOSITE of what he's hoping for.

when it turns out his hearings make more folks "radical," since they validate bin Laden's worldview that the West is at "war" with Islam.

    •  And to think that if Obama (0+ / 0-)

and Peter King had ever lived in the same Chicago neighborhood, then Sarah Palin in 2008 would have been blaming Obama for pallin' around with I.R.A. terrorists.

And the Tea Party claims not to be racist?

    •  Peter King is a huge fan of terrorists (0+ / 0-)

He spent years collecting money and supporting terrorism according to the NYTimes.
