  •  The person who brought this to my attention (4.00)
twenty-five years ago was a U.S. Marine officer (he looked like a recruiting poster and was no fool). Smedley Butler remians a hero in the Corps. They know, they've been around the world.

    •  yep we were taught about him in bootcamp (none)
at Parrfis Island in 1965, although the drill instructor only mentioned in passign the bit about the plot.

Now, here's the question.  Butler is one of two Marines to win TWO medals of honor.  Any real Marine can name the others?  Any takers?

but I'm no Marine so I won't spill.
      •  Not a marine, but a guess: (none)

      •  okay - not enough Marines (none)
so if yhou googled, you already know the answer is

        Sgt Dan Dailey

what is interesting is that they were in the same unit at Guantanomo in  1898. although I do not beleive that Butler was a direct superior of Dailey.

Apparently not that marines reading the thread.  I thought maybe someone, perhaps the parent of a Marine {Big Okie, where are you?} would know the answer.

As I remember, the building housing the PX etc at Marine Corps Schools, Quantico, was named after Dailey when I was stationed there in 65-66.
