...the confrontation anyone who was paying attention has been expecting since the November elections returned the house to the Reps.

I am certain, that the Right has every expectation that the Democrats will cave, as they have of virtually every issue in the past two years where the Republicans have dug in their heels following their agenda of Total Opposition. But this time the Democrats have an opportunity to claim the high ground and show the Republican Right for the thugs they are. Let the Reps catch the deserved blame and heat for shutting down the government in the face of Democratic willingness to compromise.

But that would require the Democrats in Washington to grow spines, lower testicles and actually dug in for once. Also, they need to articulate the Democratic message and platform, instead of allowing the Right to dictate the message AND the dialog. This is a game the Reps excel at, and the Democrats in Congress aren't even PLAYING.

Furthermore, the Obama Administration, far more centrist that the majority of the people who elected him expected, still clings to an ideal of Bipartisanship that the Republicans haven't the slightest interest in participating in. But I am coming to the feeling that President Obama has an such ingrained aversion to confrontation that there is no "Stick" to back up the "Carrot" of Statesmanship. Being President requires a little more than being a consumante politician, but you also have to be an actual Leader.

We haven't seen that level of grit in him yet. That combined with the pathetic record of the Democrats confronting the Republican and Religious Right, does not feel me with confidence in the outcome of this one.

What th' heck do I know, I work for a living...
