With ammo, and a working firearm, most everything can be taken care of.

My guess is that you will want to clarify that so that it doesn't sound like what it sounds like.

But I have a friend who darkly jokes that his survival plan is to forcibly seize the nearest Fire Station, since firemen are always prepared for emergencies.

But I'm pretty sure he's just kidding.

Civilization is a veneer anyway; when the poo hits the fan you should probably have an annotated copy of Robinson Caruso laying around!

have revealed that attitude to be bankrupt. civilization and cooperation is the best way to respond to a disaster, and the most likely to succeed.

        •  Whether it's bankrupt or not. (0+ / 0-)

That's what would happen in the states.

a quick study of how most people responded to the loma prieta '89 quake, 9/11, the NYC blackout in 2002, hurricane katrina (yes, hurricane katrina), etc. shows more people helping their neighbors out than trying to play dystopic action movie caricatures, media coverage notwithstanding - but continuing to champion that ineffective and needlessly violent approach to the world does its small part to make it worse.

the white suburbanites with guns on the greta bridge shooting at katrina refugees are the bitter fruit of that poisoned approach to disaster.

Food - shooting an animal for food (hunting)
      Protection...it's a gun. Come on.
Shelter - shoot the trees down to make a fort.
Transportation - load the guns with blanks, point behind you. Let the laws pf physics propel you forward.
      Love...it's a warm gun don'tcha know.
