  •  My letter to Mr. Peck (5+ / 0-)

Whom I refuse to refer to as "Rep." -- I'm sending this via email as well as by snail mail.

    Dear Mr. Peck,

While many in this Country on all sides of the aisle have been frustrated by immigration, a point of debate in the United States that stems back a few hundred years now, resulting in various hot-blooded remarks, nonetheless, there is nothing to be gained by dehumanizing other human beings, equating them with swine, and suggesting that they be shot. Surely, as a public servant, you should know this.

Your violent rhetoric has delegitimized whatever point you were trying to make. After the recent mass shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords, Republicans en masse stated that they did not use, or condone, violent rhetoric at all.

Sir, you have proven that to be untrue. You have suggested that we shoot other human beings for their civil offense of trespassing on U.S. soil. Of course some of these trespassers are children. A good many of them are children, in fact. Are you advocating the mass slaughter, then, of human childen from armed vigilantes in helicopters fueled apparently by the kind of fear and hatred that referring to such people as “wild swine,” entails? It’s impossible to see how you’ve advocated for anything else.

As a publicly appointed official, if your world-view is that human beings should be shot on site because you see them as subhuman pigs, rather than civil offenders or people whom the Federal Government has properly failed to provide remedy or recourse for, then I would suggest that the public whom you represent is a fairly limited one, apparently composed of hateful, violent, white racists. Is that how you’ve assessed, and thus ultimately debased, the character of your own constituents?

My suggestion for you is not an apology, but a resignation. You represent only yourself with such words. You are not fit to serve the good people of your constituency with such violent, radical-fringe points of view. And you’ve proven an embarrassment to other Republicans seeking to distance themselves from wide-spread allegations of such poor rhetorical conduct recently. You are a disgrace to your Party, to your constituents, to your State, to the entire Nation, and to the very notion of human dignity.

It is you, Mr. Peck, who seem to have an issue with conducting yourself like a human being. Whatever you’ve expressed transcends politics and enters into the realm of pathology.

I'll edit it for grammar before sending.
