    I think the way this is going to be played is how politics in MI always has been played: Detroit against everybody else.

    I suspect they're going to try to defend this monstrosity by pointing at Detroit and saying "those folks don't know what they're doing! We let them vote and run their own show and look what happened! They're bringing down the rest of the state. We need these powers to get Detroit in shape and then the rest of the state can flourish."

    So people won't make the connections you're making. They'll just see it as "oh, that's only because Detroit is so screwed up. They'll never use that in MY town!"

    I think it's a coordinated effort: de-fund public education, attack unions (particularly teacher unions) and now this. I think it really is centered on Detroit Public Schools. If they can get that out of the way, then ... well, I don't know what their next step is exactly. But I can see the pattern so far and it's ugly.
