    To begin with, probably at least half the world 's non-American population has no access to the kind of education and other life circumstances needed to become a top engineer.

    But in America, we write it off as blacks having no interest.

      Plenty of Americans, including a disproportionately large share of African Americans, also have no access to the education and other life circumstances needed to become a top engineer.

      Let's say that African Americans are about 1/6 of the whole population of America, and make the appropriate adjustment to the thumbnail numbers in my comment above. I don't think it changes my main point very much.

        it doesn't change your point at all.  I wanted to point it out because an earlier poster was pushing the lack of interest meme.

        Running Q/A scripts. Monitoring workflow. Managing ETL flows. Probably half of it.

        Blacks... not so much. A rarity.
