    •  Yes, an outrageously excellent diary. (23+ / 0-)

The best I've read in a long time.

I nominate this dairy for some kind of special prize.

I've always thought we ought to have a collection of the best, most informative, important, our foundational diary.

Like our all time top 50 diaries of the year, under a bullet point somewhere.

And, this one should be be on the list.

      Thanks and congratulations.

If you want to coast on your laurels for a bit, you could probably get away with posting sub-sections of this one as entirely separate diary, in order to concentrate our attention spans.

Because, as good as this one is, it exceeds the attention span of even our most avid, and dedicated readers who are more used to the 30 second to 2 minute "soundbites."

I mean this in the nicest possible way to everyone.

This is just a lot of great stuff to absorb.  But, important collective understandings.

And, even great news for our election strategies.  Notice that with regard to their appreciation of science independents are much more like Democrats than Republicans.

Part of our 2012 election strategy should be "Let's Blind them with Science."

Wait, that doesn't sound right does it? lol

What's a good word that is the opposite of "blind."

Like in Amazing Grace.  "I once was blind, but now I see."

      Hey, that's it.

      Our Amazing Grace strategy.

Who do you want with their hands on the rudder of the ship of state in a crisis?   Competent, intelligent, reality based Democrats?   Or, dimwit Republican chowderheads?

      Vote for Intelligent 2012!

      Thanks again sricki.

not the only one to have mentioned that this well exceeds the attention span of any normal human being. ;)

      •  Yes, please re-post (7+ / 0-)

        as a series!

I can force my attention span, but the truth is people who hit the web are in a hurry.  That's why smaller bites are more appetizing to this audience.

I'd like to add another, I think important note:  I like to call these "nontroversies", because they have been deliberately ginned up by the right to keep people distracted while they pull off great heists, erode our rights and employ slave labor.

Some people are sooo concerned about abortion, it's all they think about - the only thing they vote on.  Mix it in with evolution and the net is cast wider to those who feel Christianity is being attacked.  Add marijuana, stem cells, homophobia and the net is again cast wider to capture those who feel family values, moral centers are being eroded.

Now that science has already been questioned vis-a-vis evolution, all science can be questioned and especially because these educated people are so elitist and brainwashed by the left.  Now the traditional respect for education has also been eroded, which coincides with the ever sky-rocketing costs of education and voila!  The right is now assured of having an uninformed, un-curious population to manipulate for some time to come.

It is cumulative, pulling in more and more people who not only believe the misinformation, but who are emotionally attached to that information in a now very widely cast net.

This has been a very long term strategy.  I think that when we talk with our friends and family who have been deluded, we need to talk about who benefits from their point of view and why - the huge financial investment in promoting their point of view and where it came from.  Then, I think you can be more effective in correcting the scientific misinformation.

Trying To Distract Us From Important Issues.

This will not be possible any longer! They have awoken a sleeping Giant As The Policeman/Fireman, said entering the Wisconsin State House.

My Wonderful High School Principle always told us when he kinda caught us smoking, Forewarned Is Forearmed! But he never did do anything except threaten us. He was a wonderful man and I for one would not have graduated without his help!

          You are very correct.

          People like and need controversy.

In order to make sure this lower form of need is fulfilled, religious zealots and propogandists have worked long and well to craft the non-troversies best able to create a space for their agenda to advance.

I admire those who are good at it.

        a series of smaller diaries.

You certainly put a lot of work into this and it should be properly appreciated and understood!

I too say Thanks again sricki!
from one of those people with a short attention span!
