  •  In NY? (0+ / 0-)

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm pretty sure they've had a line on NY ballots for as long as I've been voting (1996). I realize the Green Party gets a lot of well deserved flack nationally, but in NY they are somewhat of an anomaly as far as minor parties go (they don't whore themselves as proxies for the Democrats or GOP) and can sometimes be a force to be reckoned with locally.

As a funny aside, Ian Murphy's boss, Buffalo Beast Publisher Paul Fallon, once declared his candidacy for Congress on the Green Party ticket (I forget for which district) at a press conference wearing nothing but the clothes God gave him.

    •  You only get an automatic line (0+ / 0-)

If you get 50,000 votes in a gubernatorial election. Otherwise, you need to petition your way on. This section of this Wikipedia article explains it pretty well. The Greens struck out in 2002 and 2006, but somehow clawed their way back in 2010.
