    however, and while I am not trying to defend the hormesis model, strenuous exercise would also fit your idea of a "stress" condition, and many people would argue that regular strenuous exercise is healthy.

      Other conditions where medical practitioners have attempted to apply the hormesis "stress response" terminology: hypoxia/ischemia, endogenous metabolic products such as certain lipids peroxides and other oxidant stressors, heat stress, caloric restriction, exercise, toxicants, and psychologically induced stress.
