I don't see this as a country vs country thing.  I see everyone as a human being, and if someone is slaughtering people for whatever reason we shouldn't ignore it.   And that goes for any part of the world, not just places where there are American interests to protect.

a guy just as shady as Gadafi who condoned and conducted torture against Libyans, helping the Rebels will be like ensuring that man to never pay for his past crime.

Now I wouldn't against an intervention in Bahrain where UNARMED Protesters are slaughtered by Bahrainis and Saudis Military yet nobody seems to call for a military intervention there.

    •  There does seem to be a blatant double standard. (3+ / 0-)

On balance I'm for this intervention, but I don't fault LaurenMonica at all for being skeptical. There have been, and still are, so many other governments who massacre their own people without a peep from us, or with our direct support even.

But the fact that we have fallen short in the past doesn't mean we should continue to do so.  Hey I said I was all for someone sneaking in and nabbing Gaddafi and carrying him out by force.   To me, that is ideal.

If the leader of the opposition is a bad guy then his turn will come too.   We can hope that the Libyan people can insist on free and fair elections, although I know that is easier said than done.
