  •  I am not a raving paranoid. (6+ / 0-)

Also, the Japanese are nothing if not careful. And they are not evacuating any part of Ibaraki Prefecture.

    There is no reason to.

Radiation at < 1 REM/year is damn near nonexistent.

The explosions at Fukushima were minor hydrogen explosions. Enough to throw sheet metal around, but no where near what it would take to blast open a containment structure.

    "Chicken Little."

    Tin foil.

    Whatever.

The nuclear power systems are Fukushima have sustained very little damage. The sheet metal buildings over them, sure thing.

    •  In reactor #3. Where exactly is the (3+ / 0-)

spent fuel pool supposed to be again?

      •  Outside the reactor... (4+ / 0-)

And, obviously now if you think anything dangerous is happening you're a "tinfoil" "chicken-little" fool who doesn't believe in science.

Since, nothing is happening at those disaster sites that should be of any concern to any of us...why we get more exposure to radiation when we go out in the sun and eat a bananna.

so be of good cheer.  All is well.

          pfff.

The rampant apologism and propeller-hat pollyanism is especially flavorful when topped with icing of "oil industry conspirators trying to fearmonger about the responsible, clean and always safe nuclear power industry."

Honest.  It's part of the stew.

          Youch.

Sometimes when life hands you lemons, you should throw them back.

    •  Your Assessment.. (5+ / 0-)

is not consistent with the facts we know or the imagery that we've seen from the Fukushima facility.

If you truly believe this, you should read a few recent articles about what's been happening there recently.  It's very bad, and much worse than I had thought possible a week ago.

      •  And you don't like reading radiation sensors (3+ / 0-)

        because of what ???

"Facts are stubborn things," including output from radiation sensors.

      •  Actually, it is perfectly consistent (3+ / 0-)

The explosions happened OUTSIDE the secondary containment.  The space where the venting was done was above the operations part of the reactor building.  (This was confirmed at the MIT panel discussion on Tuesday.)  Picture a tin shack on the roof of a bunker.  This is essentially what this was.  The tin shack blew sky high but the bunker itself is relatively intact below the layer of rubble.  Look again at the BWR diagram and you can see what I mean.  The beams in the diagram are the ones you see extending 4 panels down on unit 4.  That same level is the level at 1 and 3.  Everything below there was SHIELDED from the blast by the floor of the refuel level as the force of the explosion took the path of least resistance out the roof and sides.

I've posted variations of this in a number of diaries where this same misinterpretation of events has been mentioned.  I am in the process of writing a diary about containment structures which addresses this point as well.

out of Ibaraki Prefecture ASAP if there was a pending airborne radiation threat.

Some of them actually think they are going to die.

      •  We're all going to die some day. (5+ / 0-)

I'd just prefer it not be 30 or 40 years before my time due to cancer from radiation. There's enough man-made pollution out there already trying to kill me.

And I know the changes in the climate are going to make survival even harder, but if in order to offset climate changing pollution the government is going to invest billions if not up to and over a trillion dollars in the coming years, I'd rather it be towards CLEAN electricity producing technologies.

Personally I think all this defending of nuclear power just comes down to people hoping to win a good part of that government cash.

That's it for me in a nutshell.

about the planet.  After humans knock themselves off, who's going to be left to cool all the remaining nuke plants scattered around the earth?
