  •  Re: the Red Cross (0+ / 0-)

While dependable, because the Red Cross is old, it may have a lot of operating costs in its programs.  I want to maximize the money I give and am looking for a way to do it.  Also, the Red Cross is currently coordinating with the Japanese Red Cross, but, as far as I know, does not have the boots on the ground.  Which is not to say they don't.  Shelter Box does.

I have donated to the Kobe YMCA, which I can't recommend because the only way to do it is if you have a compatible bank in the US, and most areas do not.

Anyway, I'm working on it and will write a diary asap.

    •  well perhaps I'm just not as terrified as you by (0+ / 0-)

the thought that somebody somewhere might be getting a nickel from me that they "don't deserve".  (shrug)

If you are THAT worried about the money not going to people, then fly to Japan yourself and hand a check to the first refugee you see.

      •  This last post of yours (0+ / 0-)

is what it is.  I am not attacking you or your motives, and would appreciate the same courtesy from you.

I want to get help to the people who need it right now.  Donations to the Red Cross do not meet that criteria as far as I know.  Doctors Without Borders and Shelter Box do.
