  •  So what's likely to be more effective... (3+ / 0-)

...as a long term electoral strategy:

    1. Be overtly anti-religious as a party and as a movement, sharing "A Voice"'s goal of "do[ing] all we can to help the demise of religion along"—basically continue to insult them, call them and their practices "primitive," and hope they'll come around to thinking like us eventually, or...

    2. Engage them and demonstrate to them that Christian religion requires that one take the side of the poor and the worker against the rich and powerful, that Christian religion requires advocating for a social system and an economy that benefits everyone?

I think it's pretty clearly the latter, but some on this thread apparently disagree.

a religion "requires" one to take the side of the poor against the rich, the fact is that many people in this country use religion and its tenets as a means to an end, one in which the teachings of Jesus or Muhammed are quaint, but not all that important.
I would much rather convince people to take care of their fellow travelers because it's the right thing to do, not because their god told them so 2000 years ago.

How come the dove gets to be the peace symbol? How about the pillow? It has more feathers than the dove and doesn't have that dangerous beak. Jack Handey
