    And I'm tempted to HR it for the vileness of it.

    We domesticated cats. We brought them into our society and made them dependent on us. We bred them to unnatural numbers unsustainable without human intervention. And they suffer when there are disasters like this. We have an ethical obligation to care for them. They don't deserve to be discarded or left to suffer just because you see them as lesser creatures of lesser value.

    Moreover, a large population of abandoned and stranded pets in a disaster zone is a health and ecological threat to humans in and of itself. These pets need to be rescued, period. Their well-being is the humans' well-being.
