Tollbooth at the end of driveway, Cap and Trade, Carbon Tax...

All are examples of regressive taxes, taxes that the working and middle-class will not tolerate.

And I applaud all who oppose them.

... program, as suggested by James Hansen would not be regressive.

      You are spreading disinformation.

Carbon Taxes are a rational and efficient mechanism to direct investment towards energy alternatives by making people pay for some small fraction of the externalities associated with energy production.

Unless you can show that those externalities are not real, than they should be paid for. And should pay if not the polluter?  What the "working and middle-classes will stand" after 30yrs of being told that all taxes are evil, don't really enter it. Except as an obstructionist talking point, perhaps.

These are regressive in the sense that they may hit poor people harder, but not entirely, provided exist to make more energy efficient choices. It also depends on how implemented. A  simple gasoline tax is regressive as any cross-the-board sales tax; a carbon tax is not the same.

Regular old taxes are what pay for roads. Are you up in arme about those, as well.
